A Shabby Chic Christmas Affair
In 2010 we celebrated Christmas with two stunning events. The first was a “Shabby Chic Christmas” at our home in Montgomery Drive where the tables were draped in old crochet table cloths and arrangements of roses and the Hydrangea or “The Christmas Rose” made for beautiful, soft Christmas decorations. The Shabby Chic Christmas tree courtesy of Cherylin Creations was done by Jeanette Finnie and her red and green gingham fabric strip ribbons finished it off beautifully.
Once again we raised funds for Choc with our Christmas Sundowners and proceeds from all Angels sold also benefited this wonderful organization which supports families with children with cancer. We had some stunning new merchants at this event including Baluchi Jewels, Tahillah Frames, Trueberry, Eco Punk and Paisley Patch.
We celebrated our second Christmas: “A Christmas Affair for the family” at the Old Dunrobin Shed in Oakpark. Lorna Mc Conell of ‘Christmas through the home” fame came on board to help us convert the old shed into a beautiful Christmas wonderland with Swirls of gold fabric, stars and reindeer galloping by. This venue was perfect for our now drizzly summer in Pietermaritzburg. Just Boutique helped market Sarah Mc Kay’s benefit breakfasts and the Kid’s activities which involved “Santa Snack Packs”, Sand Art and a crocodile jumping castle also raised funds for Sarah’s rehabilitation. Simply Sam and Touchwood, who both stock gorgeous furniture and home décor, were part of this beautiful event. Judy Edmonds and Eddie Russell-Boulton did the beautiful ‘apple’ arrangements and topiaries.
A New Dream for Sleepy Hollow
A dreamy haze of branches afloat with beautiful boutique gifts was planned for the launch of the “Just Boutique” stand at the Garden Show this year. Just Boutique has grown out of the Gorgeous Open Day Sales co-ordinated by Lara Edmonds and is essentially a collaboration of small merchants who come together for specific events. “Each event we do has a gorgeous theme and at The Garden Show this year the theme was “Dreams and Desires” and so the challenge was to transform an empty double garage into a dreamy boutique brimming with beautiful gifts like handbags, jewellery, soap, home décor and delicious food. Just Boutique also officially launched their “Boutique website” which offers an exclusive events calendar as well as directory of workshops and boutique goods and services for Pietermartizburg and surrounds.
The Just Boutique stand was awarded a silver medal for their efforts while the Gorgeous Workshop Ladies won a Gold medal for their Alice in Wonderland 2m X2m garden designed by Jackie Cook – see workshop page. Hedgerow Spring Sale
Hedgerow is a delightful collection of country boutique clothing designed by Katherine Mackenzie. We are fortunate to always host her stock sales and it is wonderful to see the house overflowing with the Hedgerow Collection which features not only beautiful children’s clothing but gorgeous adult pyjamas, quality linen, bags and more…
A Chic South African Christmas 2009
We successfully captured the hot pinks, oranges and dramatic greys of our South African Sunsets at this gorgeous event where over 40 merchants show-cased their beautiful wares.
The “Gorgeous Christmas Open Days” took place on the 5th, 6th and 7th November, with a special Sun downer Preview Sale on the evening of the 4th November. The house was ‘ablaze’ with handmade candles, lanterns and wire Christmas trees draped in fairy lights and starlight baubles.
CHOC, a charity which supports young cancer sufferers, was the special beneficiary for the” Sun downer Preview Sale”.
CHOC is very close to our hearts because we received such wonderful support from this organization when our infant son, James, was diagnosed with leukaemia. James passed away in 2004 after two unsuccessful bone marrow transplants and ever since then, it has become a special family tradition to find a beautiful angel ornament and to hang it on the family Christmas tree in his memory. This tradition sparked the idea for the Choc Angel Fundraiser to encourage folk to purchase an angel in memory of those they have loved and lost. We sourced angels from all over South Africa but it was the beautiful, beaded wire angels, hand crafted by local communities which proved most popular. The angels ‘flew out’ our windows and the profit made on the angels was donated to CHOC so that they can continue to support other little angels with leukaemia. A gorgeus thank you to Gail Cornhill of ‘Spotted Owl Events and Promotions’ who decorated a particularly unique “Bird Tree” for Choc and to Mel of “Mom’s Matter” put together a stunning “Angel Themed Party Table”. We were also so grateful to Mark Schonau, Maritzburg’s talented fiddler, who kept guests entertained at our Sundowner Preview Sale.
A Teddy-Bears Christmas Picnic 2009
The second Christmas Open Day was a more traditional “English Christmas” with beautiful rose and plum topiaries by Mary Jane Edmonds and old fashioned teddy bears decorating the home. It was a very successful one-day event in spite of the constant drizzle.
Gorgeous Easter Open Day 2010
Our “Gorgeous Easter Open Day” was truly magical with delightful egg trees and little nests decorating the home. The delicious Easter bunny biscuits by Bon Moment Bakers were a favourite and one couldn’t help but be wonder if the Easter Bunny himself hadn’t come to do a little shopping – someone said they spotted a little white bunny sitting at Foodpak’s beautiful Easter table and there was a rumour that a fluffy someone had stolen some of the beautiful eggs made by Di Docherty of “Munchies”….
Gorgeous Moms and Kids
We celebrated a “Gorgeous Moms and Kids” Open Day during the lovely, long winter holidays. The children came out to play while mums had a lovely tea and did some gorgeous shopping. The house was decorated with bright, sunny sunflowers and everyone was given a little packet of seeds as we were: “sowing the seeds of hope for The Sunflower Fund”. The proceeds of the tea and all sunflower merchandise: gorgeous biscuits, broaches etc went to The Sunflower Fund. You can see details of The Sunflower Fund on our Gorgeous Events Calendar.
